John McMahon

John grew up in Melbourne attending Marcellin College Camberwell and then Bulleen.  He joined the Marist Brothers in 1964.  After completing a B.Sc Hons degree at Sydney and Monash Universities he began teaching at St Patrick's College, Sale in 1971.  John moved to St Paul's College Traralgon in 1973 where be became Principal in 1976.

In 1982 John was appointed Principal of Marcellin College, Bulleen, a position he held until the close of 1989. During these years he completed a Bachelor of Theology degree at the University of Divinity, Melbourne.

During the following three years John undertook studies in Spirituality in Rome and then in Church Schools in London, completing a doctor of philosophy degree at the Institute of Education, University College London.  The topic of his thesis is 'Educational Vision: A Marist Perspective'.

On returning to Australia in 1993, John took up the position of Principal of Sacred Heart College, Adelaide.   In 1999 the Marist Brothers appointed him Director of Champagnat Education, which involved overseeing and supporting Marist schools in the Melbourne Province. He held this position for twelve years.

In 2010 John was appointed National Director of Marist Tertiary Programs, a position he currently holds.
